A Brief History
The company was established by Neil Breckenridge in 1977 after leaving the hardware giant McEwan’s on the Gold Coast. In the very early days the company represented Armitage, Admiral Bathrooms and Jeldi Manufacturing, selling vitreous china bathroom products, poly marble shower trays and textile products (carpets, curtains, etc) for the respective suppliers. The business operated in Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales until big changes in the industry necessitated the move North. The late 1980s saw the company move into Northern Queensland, setting up shop in Cairns. The company bought brands such as ABP, CMS, Vision Vanities, Englefield and Donson to North Queensland. Based in Cairns, the company serviced all areas by road south to Rockhampton and west to Mount Isa.
A few more years in the North saw the company open a warehouse in Townsville and attracted additional suppliers such as Whitco, Award, Multiform, Brewers, IGP Primus, F H Prager, Viplas Olympic, Key Plastics, Austral Clothes Hoists, Aymroo and Britex. Further changes in the industry saw Rockhampton being serviced from the South East corner, ending most North Queensland Agents business dealings in Rockhampton, Blackall, Barcaldine, Emerald, Longreach and Winton. N.B. Agencies closed its operation in Cairns, relocating to its Townsville facility to refocus on the evolving market in North Queensland and the Pacific Islands. N.B. Agencies has represented a number of other manufacturers and brands over the years – AVG, Guyco, Pumpmaster, Norma Group, Aztec, Think Appliances, Gemini, CS Group, Promac, Unique Fibreglass, Showerama, Centique, Ceramilite, Scope, Aakronite and Ideal Standard to name a few.
The rest as they say is history…..
The companies are now second generation family owned and managed, being assisted by a very capable team of sales, warehouse and administration staff, most who have had many years of experience within the industry. The company’s demographic service area is North Queensland, from Sarina west to the mining towns, north to Weipa, including all cities and towns in between, west to Mt Isa and to the far reaches of Normanton and Burketown. The company also services the Pacific Islands including Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and Micronesia.
